Food (4.1) Service (4.1 (Ambience (3.4) This is a classic NYC Chinatown basement location. I like this place better than Wo Hop, which is next door and upstairs. They both draw a big crowd at dinner time so expect a wait. The only thing that has changed over the decades is a bit higher price for a classic great meal. The food is always very good. The Hop Kee Chicken is a must. It's a large boneless chicken breast cut up with lots of fresh Chinese vegetables in a great sauce. Sure it has a deep fried batter around the chicken but it's worth the splurge. The Barbecue Steak with Chinese broccoli is another must try, and I am not a steak or barbecue guy but always love it. So many other dishes, try the String Beans in Black Bean Sauce on the side. The service is always very fast and efficient, the same staff that has been around for ever. The ambience is not fancy, large cafeteria-like tables but it's NYC Chinatown, that's it! Bring all of your friends so you can try more great dishes! Hop Kee Note: Cash ONLY Don't forget to walk a couple of blocks to Ferrera's for dessert, even if it will cost almost the same as dinner... a classic treat. Ferreira Note: Credit Card accepted, lots of it! :-)

Old school family restaurant serving Cantonese style food since the late 60's. Had the opportunity to visit NYC during the lunar new year. HK did not disappoint. It was great the see the place packed with regulars. I stayed with my normal favorites..Peking style pork chops, spicy beef chow fun, salt and pepper chicken wing, crabs, Wife loved the salt and pepper prawns! Wash it all down with a couple of Tsing Tao beers. So good!! Will keep coming back when visiting!!

Stopped by late at night craving some good chinese food. this place did not disappoint. We were seated immediately and the portions are definitely meant for family style but even then were HUGE so had plenty of leftovers even with just two dishes ordered between two people. everything was delicious and would especially recommend the beef with chili peppers. perfect level of spice i couldn't stop eating it! note this place is cash only so come prepared ! there's a bank nearby which was convenient because we did not know and my friend needed to go there to get some cash mid way through our meal

I'd want to give it 5 stars but I'd know the last star was based on nostalgia and history. It's not the fanciest place, there's no mood lighting and the servers aren't at your elbow waiting for you to need something.. That being said, the food is really good and has consistently been so for years (decades really, this place is a family tradition for us). Great place for big groups!! They easily fit our 15+ groups in every time. I don't think it's wheelchair accessible, it's down somewhat steepish stairs and I haven't seen a lift. In the heart of Chinatown.. street parking is available every once in a while but don't count on it. Close to a few train stations tho, about a mile from WTC. Lo mein is the best!! Squid is not my thing but everyone in my group always loves it. The #1 item though that people don't order enough is the PEKING PORKCHOP! So good, and I probably never would have ordered it had it not already been a tradition.

This place is the og Chinatown restaurant. The servers are fast and may rush you, but honestly i appreciate the hustle. Overall food was not bad, the beef with chili peppers being the standout (only if you can handle a bit of heat). Everything else was at best a 7/10 in my opinion. I would go back though because it's good for last minute dinner plans for large crowds too! I give it four stars because i appreciate this restaurants hustle and work ethic. Service is fast and the food comes out fast. Also seeing the servers being on the older end makes me respect them even more
